What can I donate?

Encore Thrift Store accepts and sells new and gently used articles of clothing of all ages, housewares, furniture, tools, athletic items, toys, home decor, linens, craft items, purses and shoes. All items must be in re-sellable condition (no rips, stains, holes, or filthy items).

Items not accepted as donation:

  • Not fully functioning items (missing parts, needs repaired)
  • Computers (Tower/Monitor), TVs, stereos or any other electronics that may need recycled
  • Mattress and Box Spring
  • Baby Car seats
  • Baby Cribs
  • Heavy pianos

What happens to clothing that doesn't sell?

The clothing donated by the community is cycled into the thrift store on a rotating basis. Each item is given a tag with a color. After a particular color has been on the sales floor for approximately one month. The items are pulled from the racks and sent to our baler. Our clients and staff operate this baler (Big Green) and make giant bails of clothing. The bales of clothing are shipped to the commodities market where they are ground up and recycled or shipped to third world countries.

The baler is also used to shred confidential information and old cardboard boxes that are then recycled.

The bales are sold to a commodities market for reuse or resale.
